ساز ویولن سازی از دسته سازهای زهی آرشه ای است که نقش آن چه در ارکستر بزرگ چه به طور جمعی و انفرادی بسیار پر اهمیت است که آن را شاه سازها می نامند. ویولن، معمولا برای موسیقی کلاسیک غربی و موسیقی جاز استفاده می شود.  موسیقی حاصل از این ساز در کنار سایر ادوات موسیقی نیز بسیار جذاب است

خانواده ساز ویولن

بطور کلی خانواده ویولن به چهار ساز اصلی زیر تقسیم می شود، اما در مورد کنترباس نظرات مختلفی وجود دارد، ویولن کوچکترین عضو خانواده سازهای زهی آرشه ای می باشد.، خانواده ویولن شامل سه ساز ویولن، ویولا و ویولن سل است. ویولن آکوستیک و ویولن الکتریک نیز از انواع ویولن هستند.

موسیقی دان ها بر سر منشا ویولن اختلاف دارند. عده ای منشا آن را ایتالیا می دانند و عده ای دیگر می گویند که ساز ویولن تکمیل شده ی ساز رباب است و از کشور های عربی آمده است، این ساز درابتدا دارای یک سوراخ بر روی بدنه بوده، اما به تدریج این سوراخ حذف شده و سازی با سه سیم، سرآغازی برای ویولن تکامل یافته ی امروزی شده است. ساز ویولن بعد از قرن 11 در اروپا تکامل یافته و به طور وسیعی وجود داشت،  اولین سازنده ی ویولن گاسپارو برتولتی ایتالیایی بوده است که او را مخترع این ساز نیز می نامند. با اینکه از زمان اختراع اولین ویولن توسط گاسپارو برتولتی بیش از سه قرن می گذرد، اما تغییری در ساختار این ساز به وجود نیامده است.

ویولن امروزی موجودیت خود را مدیون ساز قدیمی دیگری به نام لیرا می‌باشد. این ساز اوایل قرن نهم میلادی در اروپا به حالت خمیده و ایستاده نواخته می‌شد. بر اساس برخی فرضیه‌های دیگر ویولن تکمیل شده سازی به نام رباب است، رباب بعدها به اروپا راه پیدا کرد و در آن تغییراتی ایجاد شد و ساز دیگری به نام ربک از روی آن ساخته شد. در عربی ویولن با نام پارسی کمان نامیده می‌شود. برخی معتقدند سازنده ویلون به شکل امروزی آن گاسپارو دا سالو یا گاسپارو برتولتی ایتالیایی است که خود نوازنده چیره دست کنترباس بود.

نوازندگی ساز ویولن

نقش این ساز چه در ارکسترهای بزرگ چه به طور جمعی و انفرادی آنقدر پر اهمیت است که آن را شاه سازها گفته‌اند. وجهه جهانی ویولن را می‌توان در سازگاری آن با فرهنگ‌های مختلف دید، این ساز هیچ محل ثابت و ساکنی به عنوان تکیه‌گاه ندارد و خود نوازنده نیز چنین وضعی دارد، جز در آن نقاطی که پایش زمین را لمس می‌کند. دست‌های نوازنده باید تا حد زیادی انعطاف‌پذیر و قوی و دارای حالت فنری باشد و همیشه در سطح شانه یا در حدود آن سطح به کار گرفته شوند.
